The Week in Review: Understanding Lebanon

Yeah, not going to happen.

But I've been wondering, as have many people, just how was it that Israel was good to go so quickly. Whilst the uninformed may be satisfied with "they just wanted to KICK ASS !!!1!!!one!", the more sophisticated observer would contemplate logistics.

It turns out, according to the New Statesman, that there's a story behind that.

The Daily Mail chimes in, opining that perhaps ol Chimpy wanted Hezbollah softened up so that they won't be able to retaliate when we hit Iran. Makes sense.

After all, Israel has been through so much for so long that you can understand if they go apeshit once in a while. And Hezbollah certainly isn't going to pass up the opportunity to kill them some Israelis and, merely by surviving the counterattack in some form, increase their stature and power.

It's a win-win for everyone - except the civilians that are getting deliberately targeted and murdered. And, of course, the democratically elected government of Lebanon, who are looking at the promise Bush made to support them and are realizing what a Bush's promise is worth.

What else happened this week? Well, job growth is still the worst in 40 years - in case you're wondering why the economy is such a big issue when ol' Chimpy and his buddies are telling you it's so good. Here' a hint: Bush and his buddies are rich. They've had their taxes cut, enforcement slacked off, and record profits. If you're wealthy or a multinational corporation, these are golden years.

For the rest of us, not so much. But until we have access to some form of global mass communications media, all you'll hear is how goood the American economy is.

Oh, wait...

I'd like to thank LondonYank and bonddad over at Daily Kos for giving me something to write about for today.
