More Good News from our Republican Friends in Congress

Take a look at this bright idea: HR 4437 "The Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005" including HR 4312, the "Border Security and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2005."

When it says "Anti-terrorism" it has to be good, and our friends in Congress do not disappoint. See for yourself on thomas.loc.gov.

Here's a quote from the ACLU's analysis:

The legislation would create a sea-change in federal employment rules by requiring all workers in the country to obtain a federal agency’s permission to work. All employers would be required to participate in a national employment eligibility verification program in an expansion of the faulty but voluntary "Basic Pilot" program in current law. Like Basic Pilot, the new program would use an Internet-based system to check the names and social security numbers of all employees -- citizens and non-citizen alike -- against a Department of Homeland Security database.

Let's look at the interesting bit again:
The legislation would create a sea-change in federal employment rules by requiring all workers in the country to obtain a federal agency’s permission to work.
Those of you in the US, contact your representative. Those of you visiting thanks to Onemanbandwidth, isn't America a shining beacon of freedom and democracy?

Have you seen the ACLU's new ad campaign? It's not immigration related, but I think you'll like it:

This is not an attack on you, this is a real question I have...

Does your party have anything to offer other than criticism of the Republicans?

If so... I'd love to hear about it.

Guppyman, what is my political party?

Yeah. Not a member of one. If I were, I'd point youto them to find out their "alternative".

I'll stop criticizing the Republicans when they stop being worthy of criticism.

They own the Congress, the White House, and have a majority on the Supreme Court. They get to take the responsibility. I have no say in legislation, foreign policy, or domestic issues. It is not incumbent upon me to provide alternatives.

Anyone here illegally is a criminal. Criminal aliens have no right to work in the United States. Conversely, anyone who's here legally can show proof: a passport, a birth certificate, a certificate of naturalization, or a green card.

Initiatives against illegal immigration must perforce focus on their reason for coming here: easy employment. Get used to it.

Francis, you completely missed the point.

Do you, as a citizen, want to get a permission slip from the Department of Homeland Security to get a job? Do you want to register with DHS? Are you OK with not knowing the reason why you were denied said permission by DHS? Doesn't this seem, well, Soviet to you?

There are already laws against illegal immigration that can be enforced, if that's your problem. There are already laws in California where you must prove your right to work. This goes above and beyond those laws, and turns your right to provide for yourself and your family into an obligation to get the State's permission.

And you're OK with this?
